ASSIST joins UNEP Chemical Safety Management Workshop in Kenya

Asia Society for Social Improvement and Sustainable Transformation (ASSIST) PGM Director Sathappan Sathappan participated in the African Regional Workshop on Chemical Safety Management conducted by the UN Environmental Programme (UNEP) and the International Council of Chemical Associations (ICCA) in Nairobi, Kenya last October 21 to 22, 2011.

The workshop seeks to enhance the promotion and adoption of Responsible Production among SMEs in African region through technical sessions, experience sharing, best practices exchange and open discussions.

ASSIST was invited to present and explain the features of Responsible Production toolkit, which it developed for UNEP. Aside from creating the RP toolkit, ASSIST also developed the PRE-SME (Promoting Resource Efficiency for Small and Medium Enterprises in Developing Countries) tool hosted on the UNEP website.

Among the attendees in the workshop were National Cleaner Production Centers and Resource Efficient and Cleaner Production (RECP) service providers from African region along with UNEP/UNIDO, ICCA , NGOs, Private sector companies like BASF, Dow chemicals company and Evonik Industries.#
