Handover of key city tests Afghan forces amid rising violence

A bomb exploded near a police station outside a crucial city in Afghanistan’s south Tuesday where Afghan forces are readying to assume security responsibility within hours, another worrying sign as insurgents seek to disrupt a gradual transition process.

The roadside bomb hit a police vehicle near a newly built police station in Bolan, just outside the bustling market city of Lashkar Gah.
